Long Shot
This is a poem inspired by the story of Mustafa Kardoli. It explores Mustafa’s passion for soccer, finding purpose and belonging in his sport. The performance is centred around a high school incident when, in the heat of a game, a competitor hurls a racially motivated insult at Mustafa.
In his sit down chat, Mustafa opens up about that moment and how it has shaped his approach to dealing with conflict. The poem explores Mustafa’s passion for soccer, finding purpose and belonging in his sport.
Constellation
This piece is centred around a confronting incident Muath experiences in a taxi ride, After the driver insults Muath’s culture, he navigates the complexities of the moment and the emotions that arise to eventually find a sense of resolve and belonging. The poem and recorded conversation both explore this personal journey of Muath’s and his academic pursuit in neuroscience.
Reflections
In this final piece of the series we invited members of the community to watch these performances as part of an exhibition at the IMA, and reflect on their own journeys.
